As I've been thinking about what I'd like to accomplish this next year, its been... uninspiring to say the least. There's always the typical goals I commit to- eating healthier, being more financially wise, keeping in touch with family and friends better, reading my scriptures, going to the temple, etc. etc. But I just couldn't get into those usual things this year. Meg and I were just talking today about how this week has just been one of total lack of effort and focus. Very unmotivational.
However, I've been thinking all week about this talk. Towards the very end, Elder Pearson gave what he called The 6 Destructive D's. So I've decided that instead of trying to incorporate so many big goals INTO my life this year, I'm going to try and keep the destructive things OUT of it.
1. Doubt- don't we all do this? Doubt ourselves, others, our Heavenly Father?
2. Discouragement- when we doubt, we get discouraged. I do, for heaven's sake!
3. Distraction- I get discouraged, then I get distracted from what I wanted to accomplish in the first place!
4. Lack of Diligence- of course, once distracted, I'm not very steadfast in the committments I've made.
5. Disobedience- not that I'm an outright disobedient person, but when I'm those first 4 things, I'm certainly not being an obedient daughter of my Heavenly Father.
6. Disbelief- thankfully, I've never gotten to this point. I'm pretty sure if I had, my family would have something to say about it. However, isn't doubt a form of disbelief? Aren't ALL of these a form of disbelief?
So anyway, there is my resolution for 2010. Avoid the 6 Destructive D's. Then maybe all those good things I want to commit to can become more of a reality.
