Martha Washington

"I very sincerely wish you would control yourself so as to keep all your matters in order yourself without depending upon others, as that is the only way to be happy, to have all your business in your own hands."  ~Martha Washington

As I've thought about "resolutions" and the New Year, I've decided what I decide every year.  I think resolutions are kind of annoying and rarely sincere.  Having said that, I always think its important to check in with yourself and see how you think yourself is doing.  So I've done that over the past holiday breaks that I've had and stumbled across this piece of wisdom from Martha.  She kind of summed up most of what I've been thinking about for 2012.  Have all my business in my own hands.

Some of you might think that because I answer to myself for my finances, my schedule, my health, etc, that I already have all my business in my own hands.  I would agree.  And I would also add that its really nice sometimes haha Its also very much a double edged sword.  I don't have anyone telling me not to overindulge or reminding me not to overspend or encouraging me to be better.  That's the flipside.

I've decided to tell myself "no" this year;  to try and manage my life in a more disciplined manner, maybe that's the right word.  I've tried to think of how to phrase it:  self mastery, self control,  all my business in my own hands.  I don't know- you fill in the blank there, but that's my "resolution."  I should probably get started :)

NO WAY...

You've heard me talk endlessly about loving my Pampered Chef stoneware.  I rarely cook in anything but those pieces in my kitchen.  Last Sunday I was browing a roast when....

WHAT THE HECK?  I heard a loud "pop" in my oven.  I knew what it was before I even opened the door.  It made me sick.  I use this pan for everything.... ugh.  Thank goodness my consultant is tracking down my order and I can send it in for a new one.  That's the beauty of PC- lifetime warranties on stuff. *whew*

Happy New Year!

"May we remember these ABC's as we begin our journey into the New Year, cultivating a positive Attitude, a Belief that we can achieve our goals and resolutions, and the Courage to face whatever challenges may come our way.  Then the abundant life will be ours."
President Thomas S. Monson
